One Nation leader Pauline Hanson has been declared the winner of an Australian Mother of the Year award.
The award was set up by Christian organisation ‘Family Voice’ in the wake of the decision by Barnardos to scrap the prize in 2021.
According to the Daily Telegraph, Pauline – who is a mother of four children and a stepdaughter – was selected by the group as a “worthy recipient, given her commitment to family and the community and indeed Australia as a member of federal parliament”.
The publication reports that the politician had no idea she was nominated but felt “very honoured” to receive the award.
“You’re never over being a mother until the day that you die,” she said.
“The children may be adults but they come to you for guidance and advice and support they need throughout their lives.”
Leila Abdallah, the woman who lost three of her children after a drunk and drugged driver hit them, took home the prize last year.
FamilyVoice will announce the winners in each category on Friday 6 May before Mother’s Day on Sunday, 8 May 2022.
